Who is Zoid?

Not many people can say their career start was as a stunt horse rider on the set of Lord of the Rings, Orlando Bloom's stunt double or a Ring Wraith, but award-winning Cinematographer and Director of Photography, Chris Kirkham, aka Zoid (the filming robot) is one of them.

While learning from the very best on the LOTR set for three years, Chris got a taste for filming in epic locations and crafting mesmerising digital content for international audiences.

A committed surfer, skater, snowboarder, and outdoorsman, Chris spent his early years in Wanaka, New Zealand, where he was able to combine his passions for the outdoors with his natural desire to capture these pursuits on camera. Slowly he began to hone his craft as an action and adventure sports videographer. It was a match made in heaven.

In the early 2000’s, clients including Red Bull, Hyundai, Surfing New Zealand, Boomerang TV and Billabong recognised the value of Chris’ boundless energy and technically progressive approach and partnered with him to create documentaries and pioneering broadcast television about New Zealand’s board sport culture.
